What are support structures and why are they needed?
3D printing, like everything else on Earth, is limited by gravity, and just like that support structures are considered to be a necessary evil in 3D printing. On the one hand, they are absolutely necessary for models with nasty overhangs or bridges. On the other hand, they increase material costs, add more post-processing work and can damage the model’s surface.

How do they affect your order on Craftcloud?
FDM 3D Printers work by depositing layer over layer of thermoplastics to create a 3D object. In this method, each new layer must be supported by the layer beneath it. If your model has an overhang that is not supported by anything below, your model needs additional 3D printing support structures to ensure a successful print.
If your 3D model needs support, our manufacturing partners will add them wherever necessary and remove them again before shipping out your order.
Please consider that if you upload a part with supports included, it will be produced under the assumption that you wish to receive the print with those supports intact and they will not be removed.
